About this deal

I thought the author of this book was trying to give a dramatic spin to his work, but apparently it’s all very serious! So I was struck by the stark note at the start of this book that it’s author PP Wong was the first British born Chinese novelist to get a publishing deal in the UK.

A heart-warming tale of a little boy with big ideas by international best-seller Jacqueline Wilson for Egmont’s red bana. Even though this book may lack some focus, it gives exciting information about the bananas and their impact on the world. I think it's pretty depressing that this book came out in 2007--nearly 2 decades ago--and none of the problems regarding the monoculture of bananas, the problems with corporations owning GMOs for food billions of people rely on for food, the diseases in banana fruits, etc. It is a fun read and you will find yourself saying (or thinking, if you don’t want to make the person next to you on the subway slowly edge away) “I did not know that. She comes across an unusual and creepy shrine, finds black stones from that shrine in her pocket, a sudden burst of fire while she is eating, and nightmares about her angry lover. It's a agricultural gem - a small number of trees could feed a family and more could feed a village. A third wonderfully warm story about the irresistible Tilly, from bestselling author Hilary McKayTilly is keeping a drag. I wont say, "do not read this book," but I will say, "do not read this book unless you are terribly interested in bananas and/or horticulture. It opened up discussion about the importance of representation, as Xing Li talks about how she never sees anyone who looks like her on British TV, and occasionally there would be a truly profound paragraph with a young girl confused about her identity. The unnamed narrator is visiting the hospital where her sister lies unconscious due to slow brain death.

United Fruits (Chiquita) and Standard Fruits (Dole) were ruthless robber barons that made the era of robber barons proud. The bright and bold illustrations offer lots to look at and laugh at, on every page, and lots of opportunity for counting the number of bananas, llamas and piranhas involved – yes, there are piranhas too. I think there were only two, and both of them were terrible, especially compared to how awesome the first person narrative voice was. Bananas have been coming up in my life a lot lately - I've decided they're the wonder food for biking. He rightly points out that in some parts of the world, especially East Africa, bananas are a lot more than a snack or a topping---they are life itself. Most of her novels present an independent woman as a protagonist who overcomes the tragedies and traumas of life. I remember having to read those 2 books in my first year at school so that would have been the equivalent of Year 1.

S. military involved in overthrowing legitimate local governments and even a massacre of rioting workers (shots were fired into a crowd in front of a church on Sunday).

There's more in here about corporate and pan-American politics than I expected on first hearing about the book, and I really enjoyed reading it. In the section after Zemurray, the book talks about a famous song about bananas in the 1920s (another weird chapter transition), but the author goes on a tangent to talk about different popular music at the time made by the same record label. Like, even the old ah ma's in Singapore speak better English (those who can speak English, that is).A funny, cheeky story about one very naughty little dinosaur by Tony Bradman for Egmont's blue banana series.
