About this deal

I think what made me the most angry was they could easily have been straight and it wouldn’t have affected the story as far as I could tell. Throughout the book she did very kind things for people and showed impressive loyalty to family/friends but didn't dwell on those positive aspects of herself because she was SUPER hard on herself. Some reviewers thought the heroine was too bitter and cynical but her personality is actually a lot like mine (bitter, cynical, hard-working and ambitious), so I actually really related to her sense of humor. Family will also always want what's best for you and that is to eventually settle down with marriage and having offsprings later on. Andrea is quite content, thank you very much - or at least she believes she is, and she doesn't need a man to make her happy!

But let’s talk about something I do appreciate: desperately-seeking-grandchildren Mama Tang, my favorite character in the book. I felt like the 'Bridget Jones' type character might be too obvious and maybe a little cringe, but I quickly changed my mind. She lost all the fat and now she's thin - why doesn't she have a husband - she best get one - AND SOON. Wouldn’t she rather spend her golden years discovering exciting new prescription drugs or the cerebral delights of reality TV?There are many reasons to read this book but the first reason is this just shows you how to be truly yourself and do everything you want besides you will laugh until you pee, believe me. Other than that, it was an okay time - Crazy Rich Asians, Bridget Jones's Diary plus Sex and the City all in one package. I felt like I was reading a book about a soulless, shallow, mean-girl who didn't even bother to hide her extreme racism. Both joyfully entertaining and socially perceptive, Lauren’s debut is a vivid read on dating, work and family in Singapore through the lens of a brutally honest protagonist of gold. On the other hand, Andrea's relationship with the very much mature Eric is often formal and one-sided.

I found Andrea very likeable, not perfect, making wrong decisions, it all happened to many of us and I liked that I could really relate to her.I appreciated that Eric and Suresh both felt like viable options, but Andrea seemed to feel so strongly for both that I couldn’t see this ending well. Może to, jak bardzo inne jest życie Andrei od mojego sprawiło, że śledziłam je z takim zaciekawieniem. I loved them and the story so much that I only took one break (to sleep) before quickly picking it up again and finishing it. None of this gets resolved until nearly the last page of the book, and I use the word resolved very loosely. While it is also amusing to see Lauren discovers the issue of social status and class differences, she also explores a wider concept, i.
