About this deal

Round brushes: Round brushes are the most versatile and widely used for watercolour painting. Their shape makes them suitable for small details and delicate lines, but also for broader strokes and washes. Kitchen paper: A really useful material for creating textured effects…and cleaning up any spillages! Toner pigments, finely ground raw components, great saturation, natural and vivid transitions. Suitable for Japanese comedic graffiti painting this finely milled watercolor pigment with great saturation, natural and bright transition, has a focused process resulting in great durability. The solid watercolor paint can be impregnated directly on paper and the colors are vivid, easy to blend, long-lasting, and rapid drying.

This portable watercolor set is perfect for bringing along whether you are traveling to the countryside, relaxing at the beach, or walking down the urban landscapes. This set of 18 assorted half-pan watercolors are formulated to blend easily and create an endless range of colors. Many of the best watercolor sets featured above come with a small brush, but you’ll want to invest in several more for your artwork. These can have wooden, plastic, or acrylic handles with either synthetic or natural fibers. Hot-pressed watercolor paper (or HP) has a smooth finish. This gives you more time to work with paint before it dries and results in brighter colors in finished works. It’s best for precise watercolor paintings since it retains brush detail very well.

I use and love cadmium pigments but if you have any concerns, you can find hues and close alternatives from most brands. And though it should go without saying, if you do use cadmium paints please don’t ingest them in any way! What watercolour paints do I use? You can do this with multiple colors, but initially, try it out with just two. While this technique requires taking things slow, it’s easy to do.

Setting up your own palette

One of the great things about watercoloring is that you don’t need a bunch of supplies to get started. There are add-ons you can eventually invest in as you evolve in the craft, but as a beginner, all you need are a few essentials. Watercolor paints can be washed out of most materials, as they can always be reactivated by adding water.

However, this doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t give good results! Any watercolor set for beginners from a top brand will have vibrant colors and reasonable lightfastness ( watercolor paint isn’t the most lightfast overall!).This is another score given to watercolour paints. It tells you if the pigment used is known to fade over time when exposed to sunlight. All this means is that if you want to display your work on the wall or sell it for other people to display, you want paint that has a good lightfastness. Do you need an easel that will tilt to horizontal? (will you be painting with lots of dilute watercolour which might run?) Some studio and sketching easels will tilt fully to a horizontal working position, which can be really useful if you need to ensure your paint does not run. Watercolor tubes, on the other hand, are wet. This means they’ll mix with water faster than pan paints, which can be a blessing or a curse. If you’re not careful, you may end up wasting good paint by squeezing too much out of the tube!

When buying your watercolor set, focus on the fundamentals. Primary colors (red, yellow, blue) are all you need at first. Don’t worry about mistakes, watercolours are very forgiving as Esra explains: "If the colour you applied is very light, you can lift it by adding a little clean water and pressing with a tissue and that would fix the issue. If colours bleed into each other, I would always wait for both to fully dry and then apply the colour again. There are usually ways around most things!" Esra enthuses: "My advice would be starting to paint and seeing all the possibilities especially by mixing different amounts of water into your paint to create different shades and tones.

In your second rectangle, just add dabs of paint. This activity is great for beginning to gauge the amount of water and paint you prefer to use.
