These closed-back DT 1770 PRO headphones have been designed for referencing in mixing, mastering, monitoring and recording environments.

But what’s probably the best thing about Beyerdynamic headset is the fact that its external features are not only largely identical, but they’re really good. Soundtechnisch ist der DT 880 Pro Black Edition vergleichbar mit dem DT 770 Pro, allerdings ist er beim Bass besser aufgestellt und in der Verteilung der Hoehen und Tiefen meiner Meinung nach besser.In the real world though, when listening at sensible levels, the low end sounds the same on both of these models – and it does sound clean, even after calibration which does raise distortion a fair bit.

The higher-impedance versions are suggested for use in more critical applications because they are less likely to increase measured distortion or frequency response variations from most equipment. The treble boosts in the DT 990 and DT770 are peaky, and the bass of the DT 990 is somewhat boomy to the careful ear, with a broad peak around 60 Hz. Value aside, if you had to pry one away from me now (880 or 600), I would have to let the DT 880 go. When compared to HD600, DT880 is clearly inferior in design, one can observe the headbands, wiring connection methods and fixed cable. Dt880 will profoundly disappoint anyone serious about their quest for natural, balanced and rich sound.I bought these to replace my Superlux HD-330's that I had for almost 5 years before they broke down on me. The actual impedance of the 600 Ω version is about 660 Ω, but more importantly, it's almost purely resistive. Another downside I observe here is, wiring for opposite driver is embedded on upper end of headband, like an overhead cabling.

My despair deepened further when I heard no bass extension, still after a nice and loud 24h burn in. I own the 600 Ω version, and with popular music I usually have my iPod set at close to its maximum volume, and with classical music and movies, I almost always have my iPod set to maximum, and wish I had another 5 to 10 more dB of gain. I would say this has the best high ends I've heard in any headphone I've tried out, but that just comes down to a matter of taste. In addition to the standard model with its distinctive silver-coloured earpieces and grey ear pads, a Pro Black Edition is also available.

If you plan on using these at the computer or mixing board, you’ll appreciate the fact that the velour pads in conjunction with the wide area of contact make for a very comfortable experience, especially over long periods of time. They do have some overemphasized treble frequencies that may need some time to adjust to but then they just provide a really reliable sound.
