About this deal

Born from a desire for flagship performance and innovation in a more compact and streamlined connected camera, the D7500 delivers the game-changing resolution, ISO range, image processing and energy efficiency of the award-winning D500 in an enthusiast-level DSLR. Simply put, the D7500 is built to outperform any camera in its class with top-tier image quality, blazing speed, flawless autofocus, 4K Ultra HD video and pro-grade creative tools—all in a comfortable, rugged design. This is a camera for the new generation of creators. In some respects an approximately 16% greater pixel count makes the D5600 the more attractive camera of the two, but the lower resolution of the D7500’s sensor makes it better in low light.

The D7500 has a reasonably large and bright optical viewfinder, with 0.94x magnification and 100% coverage of the lens’s field of view. A sensor above the eyepiece automatically switches off the rear screen when you’re using the viewfinder. The auto white balance system does an equally good job. It preserves the natural colour of outdoor shots very effectively and copes well under artificial light – though it will still show a bit of a yellow cast under tungsten lighting. Overall, colours are rich, vibrant and realistic. We used the D7500’s Standard picture control throughout, but other picture controls are available including Vivid, Portrait and Landscape.Automatic, Artificial Light, Fluorescent Lamp, Sunlight, Flash, Cloudy, Open Shade, Manual, Colour Temperature Nikon uses a monocoque construction for the D5600 and D7500, which means their bodyshells are made from one piece of polycarbonate. That makes them lighter and stronger than they would otherwise be. The camera’s 180K-pixel RGB metering sensor and Advanced Scene Recognition system combine to ensure you’ll get the shot—even when the scene involves smaller or fast-moving subjects. For high-contrast scenes, the new highlight-weighted metering will prioritise the brightest elements in the frame, and help you avoid images with blown-out highlights.

The included EN-EL15a rechargeable lithium-ion battery is CIPA-rated to last for approximately 950 shots per charge.Metering employs a 180K-pixel RGB sensor – which is also used for face detection and subject recognition – while feeding information into the AF system to help the camera understand how a subject is moving around the frame. It’s possible to pair the camera with multiple devices, so you can alternate between using a smartphone and tablet. However, since there’s no option to set up a Wi-Fi-only connection, you have to manually switch between them each time using the camera’s Bluetooth menu – which isn’t very intuitive or convenient. I found that the best option is to add the Paired Devices sub-setting to the camera’s custom My Menu. Slightly lighter than the D7200, this model isn't too dissimilar in build and the only noticeable differences include: Keep your camera connected to your smart device with SnapBridge. Sync photos as you shoot. Use your smart device to shoot remotely.

When working in live view, for either still or movie shooting, a contrast-based AF system is employed to acquire focus precisely and can function in continuous, full-time servo mode to better-suit working with moving subjects. Speaking of cards, the D7500 only features a single SD card slot, not two, as on the D7200, which will no doubt be a disappointment for some potential buyers. The D7500 is the clear winner here as it is capable of shooting 4K video whereas the D5600 is capped at Full HD. However, if you want to create a slow motion video, both cameras allow you to shoot Full-HD video at up to 60p which means you can have half-speed video. The Nikon D7500 boasts excellent image quality with accurate colours and exposures. An improved ISO range helps things along nicely, resulting in successful low-light shooting. Budding professionals can test their studio shooting out with good effect too, with positive results to report from studio shooting, with good colour balance and shadows.Auto AF, Continuous-Servo, Face-Priority AF, Full-time Servo, Single-Servo AF, Normal Area AF, Wide area AF, Manual x 3.712 Pixel (3:2), 5.568 x 3.128 Pixel (16:9), 4.272 x 2.848 (3:2), 4.272 x 2.400 Pixel (16:9), 4.176 x 2.784 Pixel (3:2), 4.176 x 2.344 Pixel (16:9), 3.840 x 2.160 Pixel (16:9), 3.200 x 2.136 Pixel (3:2), 3.200 x 1.800 Pixel (16:9), 2.784 x 1.856 Pixel (3:2), 2.784 x 1.560 Pixel (16:9), 2.128 x 1.424 Pixe (3:2), 2.128 x 1.192 Pixel (16:9)
