I remember flying through this and feeling like I was watching a horror film waiting for a jump scare. After giving a smile to some random guys, a fun road trip takes a turn for the worst for a group of seventeen-year-old girls when they realize that they are being followed and can find no successful way to rid themselves of their unwanted and annoying admirers. Okay, teen girls in bathing-suits are not necessarily my thing but this book probably won’t embarrass you too much, at least at the beach, since the cover screams summer read. Seventeen-year-old Kristy Sweetland is a pretty, blonde cheerleader away for the summer at cheer camp. However, the cover (and the title, oh that title) makes you think this book is about girls and their summer at the lake and maybe they meet boys and fall in love and get their hearts broken and learn some lessons and have the best summer.Kristi's voice had a tone that made it sound as if she'd been telling people all her life what to do, and they'd been doing it. She understands the thought processes and pressures of these characters and if her books aren't set in the teen/childhood years most of the characters problems stem from those times in the character's life. Admittedly, the title and cover of this hardback (the cover features a dreamily fuzzed photograph of three teen girls staring out over a lake, their long hair blowing in a breeze) led me to believe that this would be a cheesy chick-lit read.
