About this deal

I only buy all issues of Railway Modeller and Model Railway Journal these days. The other modelling magazines only get a look-in when they include something of specific interest. I've maintained a full set of the MRJ but the RMs generally get "filleted" after a year or so.

Amongst these was Iain Rice who in 1993 along with Andy Farquarson (who introduced himself very wittily "from the armchair" in MRJ 25) left to set up "Model Railways Illustrated" for Irwell Press. This was a good magazine, but after various machinations it eventually expired towards the end of 1997. Iain Rice had shortly before left to try his own hand at publishing with his ill fated Rail Model Digest and spin offs. Bob Essery and Don Field on wagon suspension for the 7mm/ScaleSeven Dewsbury project, using the recently-developed Slater's system.Chris Leigh – Scottish station nameboards in 4mm.Graham Farish – BR Mk4 DVT.P & D Marsh – New owners and road cones.Gateneal Ltd. – Agents for Sagami motors.DJH – 7mm BR Standard Class 2.MJT – Working BR gangway.Roundfield Engineering – 7mm ex-NER 10T dropside wagon.Ratio – 7mm GWR signal.Model Signal Engineering – 7mm ex-SR signal and lever frame.Richard de Camin – Peco 7mm GWR van conversion.

Based on a photograph in GWRJ No. 50, John Darch has incorporated the bridge and canal over the Worcester & Biringham canal, just to the west of Rainbow Hill Jct., on his P4 'Worseter' layout which is based on the railways of Worcester and Gloucester. Shipley Model Railway Society member Frank Davies described how they built wire fencing for the Hungerford exhibition layout. He says 'Modellers who have limited patience should probably give this approach a miss, but for those of you who enjoy a challenge and have infinite patience then this approach may be the solution you are looking for.' Train Tronics - working 4mm turntable. Brassmasters - 2mm etched LNWR G1/G2 'Super D' 0-8-0T locomotive kit. Cunningham Woodcrafts - American-style milled stripwood sections. Meridian Models - Ruston & Hornsby etched 4mm narrow-gauge diesel locomotive kit. Garth Allan - 4mm narrow boat kits. John Boyle - 4mm figures. Chris Leigh - detailing components. Adrian Gray - etched 4mm slate wagon kit.A step-by-step guide to constructing a beam-compensated GWR 48xx/14xx 0-4-2T in 4mm finescale, using the Dapol body, Perseverance etched chassis and various detailing components. Includes prototype drawings and photos. Tony Wright reveals the thinking behind this popular exhibition layout, designed both to provide authentic mail-line running, and allow the spectator to indulge in traditional lineside trainspotting.

Published by Wild Swan Publications (Latterly known as Cygnet Magazines Ltd) and aimed more at finescale modelling rather than ready to run, each issue of Model Railway Journal contains quality articles, superbly illustrated and authored by some of the best modellers in the UK I have a full set of The Southern Way (if that counts as a magazine), and also buy specific issues of the various "nostalgia / historical" monthlies that include something I want to keep; again, usually filleted / filed after a decent interval.Mark Tatlow set out to capture the unique scenery and atmosphere of the Kyle line and learned some valuable modelling lessons along the way. Peter Squibb models a 4mm model of a GWR signal from Churston on the Kingswear branch with functioning route indicator. The life and works of a Scalefour Society Area Group - Cambridge area in this case - by Geraint Hughes. Scratchbuilding goods vehicles, even relatively complicated outside-framed vans, is a straightforward process using ready-cut sheet & strip. In 7mm scale where the detail counts, it's specially rewarding. Part 2 of 3. Continued from issue 12) Extensive prototype details and drawings of brakes, axleboxes, springs and buffers.
