About this deal

On Rotten Tomatoes the film holds an approval rating of 74% based on 66 reviews, with an average rating of 6. He said, "Oozing style, wit and confidence from every sprocket, and offering a dizzyingly, fresh perspective on the Big Apple that only Besson could bring, this is, in a word, wonderful". That doesn’t mean that they’re not enjoyable, mind, just there’s no new material for long-time Leon fans to sink their teeth into. Léon is a hitman (or "cleaner", as he refers to himself) working for a mafioso named "Old Tony" in the Little Italy neighborhood of New York City.

The New York Times ' Janet Maslin wrote, " The Professional is much too sentimental to sound shockingly amoral in the least. For those 4K hounds who are looking to expand their collection with a cleaned-up piece of iconic filmmaking, this new release of Leon looks nothing short of stunning. When Léon is out on a job, Mathilda fills a bag with guns from Léon's collection and sets out to kill Stansfield. It’s a masterpiece of mainstream cinema that twists all the conventions on their heads, and still manages to thrill, enthral, and move, even now 25 years past its original release.

The site's critics consensus reads, "Pivoting on the unusual relationship between seasoned hitman and his 12-year-old apprentice—a breakout turn by young Natalie Portman—Luc Besson's Léon is a stylish and oddly affecting thriller. An extended cut, retitled 'Leon: version integrale' was released in French cinemas on June 26, 1996. Olivier Megaton Admits 'Colombiana' Inspired By Luc Besson's Unmade 'The Professional' Sequel Script".Léon and Mathilda form an unusual relationship, as she becomes his protégée and learns the hitman's trade. There’s only so much time in the world, and there are so many movies that are definitive in their genre, that mark special moments in time, that revolutionise cinema, or are just simply that good that it is impossible to see them all. In 2011, director Olivier Megaton told reporters that he and Besson used the script for Mathilda as the basis for Colombiana, a film about a young cleaner played by Zoe Saldaña. In that case, you’re likely wondering just why this new release of a 25-year-old film would be worth your time. However, in the meantime, Besson left Gaumont Film Company to start his own movie studio, EuropaCorp.

He picks up a 12 year old girl after she is orphaned in a brutal fashion, takes her in, and starts to teach her his trade, how to kill, even taking her on jobs. At first, Léon is unsettled by her presence and considers killing her in her sleep but he eventually trains Mathilda and shows her how to use various weapons. However, he was not entirely complimentary: "Always at the back of my mind was the troubled thought that there was something wrong about placing a 12-year-old character in the middle of this action. At the time of the accusations, Natalie Portman discussed her "complicated feelings" about the film and her associated Lolita-like sexualization as a child. English audio track with optional English subtitles, and I have to say that the film looks spectacular. Léon killed the father in revenge and fled to New York, where he met Tony and trained to become a hitman. But don’t just simply label Leon as a gun-toting actioner, for Luc Besson crafted something utterly beautiful with this ’94 offering as he explored the relationship and burgeoning bond between the movie’s two protagonists. After Mathilda’s family are brutally murdered by a rogue and erratic DEA agent (Oldman), the 12-year-old seeks solace with the grizzled assassin and manages to convince Leon to reluctantly train her so that she can take her own bloody revenge.

This could be the sticking point in the film, except the emotional maturity of the characters redeems this story arc. She’s out getting groceries the day the crooked DEA agents pay her father a visit, looking for some missing dope, and wind up killing her family.

format in the audio menu, but the rest of the extras are conventionally in the extras menu, and it looks like they are taken from previous releases.
