About this deal

With nothing more than a compass, sextant, and pet cat, the father and son duo are tested on an incredible voyage.

In many ways, Slocum was the first cruiser and the trouble he gets himself into, the people he meets, and the places he goes are things to which we can all relate. No portion of this work may be reproduced, copied or revised without written permission of the editor. Miles Smeeton and his wife Beryl sailed their 46-ft Bermuda ketch, Tzu Hang, in the wild seas of Cape Horn, following the tracks of the old sailing clippers through the world’s most notorious waters.

Calm and storm, good luck and defeat, happiness and grief – all this old fisherman Santiago saw more than once, but at the end of his days, fate prepared him for a new trial. This solo race is famous for taking sailing to another level and it took part across the Southern Ocean. She chose the latter and for the next two and a half years and 27,000 miles, she sailed the world with only her cat as a companion.I found the frequent references to pop culture, celebrities, and brand names to be a lazy convention, allowing the author to “describe” without having to actually go to the effort of crafting any actual description. An international best-seller, the book became a great influence and inspiration to travellers from each corner of the globe. If you’re not interested in meaningful character analysis and just want a romping good adventure, this is highly recommended. My quick and simple overall: a quick read that only takes about 5 hours to read, with enough entertainment to keep a reader interested but not the best Patterson co-written book by any means.

I think if James Patterson himself were to review this book he would give it a poor rating and most surely chastise himself; he really shouldn't let this happen again. Used throughout America as a textbook in sailing schools and Power Squadrons,The Annapolis Book of Seamanshipthoroughly and clearly covers the fundamentals and advanced skills of modern sailing. Peter Carlyle is the step dad and staying behind in New York, his wife, her three kids and her brother in law from a previous marriage head off. For this small story, the author’s was not only honored the Pulitzer Prize in 1953, but a year later received the Nobel Prize. As I said a good choice for a day by the pool and if you can get past the most unlikely events happening you will enjoy the book, 3/5 for me.She was a navigator, skipper and engineer leading her crew/family through some bad storms, tides, and cougars and showing her children how to love and respect nature. If you've ever experienced a family trip from hell, I'm sure it had nothing on this disastrous trip!
