About this deal

With such a remarkable cast of characters, Sansom had to put them through extremely difficult obstacles to test their limits and to give his readers a breathtaking look into the Tudor world. We find Shardlake trying to live a quiet life fighting legal cases with the help of his assistant Jack Barak. Arriving in York, Shardlake senses that things may not be as troubling as Cranmer posited, seeing a community ready to celebrate with their King. In addition, we learn a lot more about Shardlake’s relationship to his father and his growing up in the countryside.

These seven books make for a fabulous series, but Sansom has mentioned that he does wish for the series to go through the reign of Elizabeth I, which I would love.Steven Crossley does a great job again – his Shardlake is now how I imagine him sounding, and I’ve grown used to his Barak, though he sounds a bit older and gruffer than he did in my mind while reading. Yes, bones hanging from a loft where a man had died slowly, in chains, and finally been picked clean, while various body parts of other miscreants (or just someone who was out of favour at the wrong time) decorate bridges and pikes and fences everywhere. To those who have read other historical books of the period (Wolf Hall among them) the names will be familiar: the Howards; the Seymours; the Parrs; the Dudleys; and, of course, Richard Rich.

Crook his back "Quasimodo" style (oh how I wanted to say “bend it like Beckham” instead, but I figure it's time we all move on from that one). I might fangirl a bit during this review, but I will try my best not to spoil this series for anyone else. S. edition, hardcover, has a slight lean to binding, light bumps to spine ends and cover corners, and a black remainder mark to base of text block near binding, otherwise a solid, bright VG+ copy in a bright like dust jacket, which has very faint wear to spine ends and corners. The secret at the heart of the book, the one which causes all the trouble and puts Shardlake in danger, is based on a real rumour current at the time, muddied by a real prophecy which many believed (even though it was originally fictional).Between her newfound celebrity and her demanding cape duties, Dreadnought is stretched thin, and it's only going to get worse. The Main thing that you need to know about this book is that you shouldn't even pick it up unless you've plenty of free time in which to read it through to the end. You feel like you are friends with the protagonist and his pals and you despise the nefarious villains that try to thwart the efforts of the heroes.

Things seem to run as smoothly as it could until a master glazer’s mysterious death reveals secrets that will send Shardlake and Barak into a deadly collision course with some of the most powerful men and women in England during this time. You feel like the books are true escapism and that you can visualize the world that the author has created using a combination of facts and fictional ideas. In the autumn of 1541 Henry VIII had set out on his spectacular royal progress to the north of England.Following the uncovering of a plot against his throne in Yorkshire, King Henry VIII has set out on a spectacular Progress to the North to overawe his rebellious subjects there. Summary: The third book in Sansom's Shardlake series looks at the royal progress to the north of England. It has been three years since the terrible events at Scarnsea monastery, and lawyer-detective Matthew Shardlake is living a quiet life in London - until a summons from Cromwell sees him embarking on another danger.
