During his keynote address Kaffe shared his life story and his many sources of inspiration in a talk appropriately entitled “Colour Lecture”. What I really like is that Fasset's choice of colors makes wonderful use of simple patchwork designs such that the designs themselves become only a background for new, shimmering combinations of fabrics. In my case, a rainbow of colors was too much for this design – he recommended I decide on either a warm or cool palette and rhen go from there. I'm almost finished making my version of his "Frothy Table Cover" which is made of cotton in a combination of floral pastels cut into triangles. All quilts have step-by-step instructions, and actual size templates are included for photocopying at the back of the book.

Divided into five color themes--ranging from soft pastels and leafy gardens to bold circus hues--these stunning designs bear Kaffe's unmistakable stamp. This is a patchwork book that pushes colour boundaries and there are some really great ideas with colours together that you just wouldn't think would look right. It was interesting to watch Kaffe’s single minded concentration as he focused on each person’s developing design, deciding if the fabric choices worked together and recommending options if he thought they did not.Here once again, Kaffe’s colorful vocabulary came out as he described with sincerity and passion what attracted him about each quilt. I gathered a new idea just this week from the book and even though the floral fabrics are dated - looking at the shapes and color ways i have a new quilt brewing in my mind.

There are no shortage of color photographs and most of the designs are pictured close up and then pictured again being used in the home decor. A workbook on colours coordination, how to observe and SEE patwork patterns in reality - and transfer them into astistic objecs. He showed us how he finds inspiration in the smallest things, like the color variations of lichen covered stones or the shade gradations in a geranium leaf. Since 1999, Glorious Color has specialized in the quilt fabric and books created by Kaffe Fassett and Liza Prior Lucy.

We would each be working on designing the Green Diamonds pattern from Kaffe’s Quilts in Ireland book. In addition to the main quilts, there are ideas for smaller, accompanying items, such as curtains, cushions and even tablecloths, so that you can develop the patchwork theme within an interior - as well as enjoying smaller projects which can be treated in no time at all. Used books have different signs of use and might not include supplemental materials such as CDs, Dvds, Access Codes, charts or any other extra material.
