To impressionable teens, domestic violence is almost romanticized. We've made great strides in recent years in clearly communicating the message that is never okay to hit a woman...Today, the hidden message in the entertainment consumed by many impressionable teens is that if he hits you, it is out of love– which is absolutely wrong. [89] People do not want to just read Meyer's books; they want to climb inside them and live there... There's no literary term for the quality Twilight and Harry Potter (and The Lord of the Rings) share, but you know it when you see it: their worlds have a freestanding internal integrity that makes you feel as if you should be able to buy real estate there. [40] Jane and Alec are turned into vampires by Aro after almost being burned at stake by angry villagers, condemned of witchcraft. They then join the Volturi as the coven's most prized members. So I have pretty much complained throughout the whole series so this will be difficult to review with stars. I would never reread this box-set again except the first 2 books if I was held hostage and had a gun to my head. But the rest had too many things that I disliked, the few moments (like 2 times in each book) that I enjoyed were overshadowed by negativity. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella. Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physically ill.

I enjoyed the wrapup to the series immensely. I didn't really enjoy the birth scene, and I wish some of the tension around meeting the Volturi was enhanced/extended. However, the series had a happy ending. I found this book entertaining because it showed up some of the rivalry between Jacob and Edward for Bella's affections and how they worked together for Bella. I enjoyed this book more than the first two, and by this time, I accepted the fact that Edward was so noble. Dodai Stewart (November 30, 2009). "Twilight's Hero Is Abusive, Which Makes Him All The More Romantic". Jezebel . Retrieved November 21, 2011.Bella and Edward are married, but their honeymoon is cut short when Bella discovers that she is pregnant. Her pregnancy progresses rapidly, severely weakening her. She nearly dies giving birth to her and Edward's daughter, Renesmee, a dhampir. Edward injects Bella with his venom to save her life and makes her a dhampir. A vampire from another coven sees Renesmee and mistakes her for an "immortal child". She informs the Volturi, as the existence of such beings violates vampire law. The Cullens gather vampire witnesses who can verify that Renesmee is not an immortal child. After an intense confrontation, the Cullens and their witnesses convince the Volturi that the child poses no danger to vampires or their secret, and they are left in peace by the Volturi.

The one thing I will hand to Stephanie Meyer, however, is that somehow she is still aware of EXACTLY what a teenage girl wants to read. She is aware of the hero the teenage girl wants and the heroine the teenage girl wants to pretend she is. When I first read the books, I loved Edward, and I thought Bella was juuuust like meeeeeeee. As do most of the other girls on the planet, I imagine. Hell - even grown women. So kudos to Meyer for managing to bottle down in *only* four books every instance of wish fulfilment a girl could ever need in her literature. Valby, Karen (July 18, 2008). Conceptually the problem for me with this novel is two-fold. First, that someone has a secret and Bella has to use her wits to figure it out herself (sort of like Book 1 but with Jacob instead of Edward). It O'Sullivan, Kay (July 25, 2009). The first two books got fairly good stars from me, but it was overshadowed by my own hatred for (mainly) Edward. Breaking Dawn. Edward and Bella get married, have a half human-half half-vampire child with special abilities and ***spoiler*** Edward changes Bella into a vampire as she is dying. Bella also has a special Since the release of the first novel, Twilight, in 2005, the books have gained immense popularity and commercial success around the world. The series is most popular among young adults; the four books have won multiple awards, most notably the 2008 British Book Award for Children's Book of the Year for Breaking Dawn, [4] while the series as a whole won the 2009 Kids' Choice Award for Favorite Book.
