About this deal
Horse riders should also give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing, and to pedestrians and cyclists on a parallel crossing. Drivers and riders should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross and MUST give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing (see Rule H2). Fortunately, in 2016, the rates of fatalities and injuries on our roads were lower than in 2014, according to the Department for Transport. If you have started crossing and traffic wants to turn into the road, you have priority and they should give way (see Rules H2 and 170).
The Highway Code: 8 changes you need to know from 29 January 2022
The introduction section of The Highway Code has been updated to include 3 new rules about the new ‘hierarchy of road users’.Pedestrians have priority when on a zebra crossing, on a parallel crossing or at light-controlled crossings when they have a green signal. If a self-driving vehicle needs to hand control back to the driver, it will give you enough warning to do this safely. Pedestrians MUST NOT be on motorways or slip roads except in an emergency (see Rule 271 and Rule 275). I always observe parking restrictions and until a couple of weeks ago had never been given a parking ticket. It ran from July to October 2020, and received more than 20,000 responses from the public, businesses and other organisations.
The Official Highway Code (Paperback) - Waterstones
While a self-driving vehicle is driving itself in a valid situation, you are not responsible for how it drives. This applies whether they are using a cycle lane, a cycle track, or riding ahead on the road and you should give way to them. Cutting the number of deaths and injuries that occur on our roads every day is a responsibility we all share. None of this detracts from the responsibility of ALL road users, including pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, to have regard for their own and other road users’ safety.
