About this deal
Europe was still feeling the effects of the second world war and, in Italy, football and economic growth would be linked for decades. The post-war context heaped even more pressure on Inter, who had not won a Scudetto for nine years and had only conquered the league five times since their inception in 1908. They would go on to finish third in the 1949-50 season, behind Juventus and Milan, but they approached this derby with high hopes. The city’s tradition imposes that no building can be higher than the Madonnina that stands proudly at 108.50 meters. For this reason a copy of the statue has been installed on top of the highest skyscrapers n town: the Pirelli building, the Isozaky tower and the Palazzo Lombardia, headquarter of the Lombardy region. After reporting these developments to the Vatican, Monsignor Grillo was authorised to set up a theological commission to study the case. It was the start of many sleepless nights, he says. On March 1, soon after the statue had been returned to him, CODACONS, Italy's largest consumer protection group, alarmed at extensive media coverage of the case, issued a formal complaint against "unknown persons". The charge was "abuso della credulita popolare" (abuse of the people's belief), under a law introduced in 1930 to deter magicians and hoaxers from duping the public.
Fabio Gregori's ordeal, however, was far from over. Under Italian law, once an accusation is made, the public prosecutor is obliged to open a full-scale criminal investigation, which can drag on for years, even if there is insufficient evidence to prosecute. What happened a week later added a whole new dimension to an already farcical situation. While saying mass at home with his sister, brother-in-law, nephew and two Romanian nuns, the bishop claims that La Madonnina cried tears of blood as he held her in his hands. From today, it is finally possible to admire Milan from a unique and privileged point of view, where the eyes of the Milanese and those visiting the City have always converged - the Madonnina of Milan Cathedral. Liedholm, now installed as manager, was assembling a team that would form the basis of the all-conquering Milan side of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Serie A teams were only allowed two foreign players on the pitch and in Milan’s case both were English – Ray Wilkins and Hateley. The latter would be the man of the hour. Its vast spaces are dominated by 15th to 16th-century stained-glass windows – the largest in the world. Its 52 gigantic pillars give depth to the naves, leading to the three altars designed by architect Pellegrino Pellegrini.
Some voices, as confirmed by the Bishop Girolamo Grillo itself, argue that Pope Wojtyla was very devoted to the Madonnina andthat more than once hewent undercoverto Pantano to venerate her. The clubs don't have to wait too long before renewing their rivalry, with the opening Derby della Madonnina coming only four weeks into the new Serie A season. It will take place on the weekend of 16 September, one matchday earlier than the first meeting between the pair last season. The reliquary presented to Archbishop Baranzini on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination ids of special interest since it contains the tears collected by the commission. The reliquary is comprised of three layers, the bottom of which contains cloths saturated with the tears, a vial of the tears and some cotton wool that had absorbed the tears; the second layer has four panels depicting the events. The third and highest layer has a crystal urn which holds another vial of tears: the tears in it are now crystallized. The Duomo is as architecturally astonishing on the outside as it is inside. Its pearly white façade is adorned with 135 gargoyles and 3,400 statues. It proudly displays a mélange of different artistic styles, including Romantic, Gothic and Gothic Revival. After careful sifting the numerous reports, after having noted the positive results of the diligent chemical analysis under which the tears gathered were examined, we have unanimously announced the judgment that the reality of the facts cannot be put in doubt.
The Milan Derby between Inter and Milan is defined by the success of both clubs. Juventus are the most decorated team in Italy - winning 36 league titles - but the fight for second spot between Milan's two clubs continues. Both have been champions of Italy 19 times. The Duomo became a crossroads of people exchanging different ideas and visions, ultimately becoming the most Gothic European Cathedral. At least 78 head architects took part in its construction, so it’s difficult to trace the authorship.Among the thousands of statues, some are naturally images of saints andfigures fromthe history of Christianity, but some others are rather peculiar: sirens with double-ended fishtails, the portrait of boxer athlete Primo Carnera, and the face of Benito Mussolini are just a few worth searching around. Francesco Croce, architect of the Veneranda Fabbrica, was commissioned to build the Great Spire on 21 June 1762. In 1765 Croce proposed decorating the gran guglia (great spire) with a statue of the Virgin who was being brought to heaven by angels. The Catholic Church has not yet expressed officially their thoughts about theweeping Madonna of Civitavecchia and still the public opinion is strongly divided between skeptics and believers. While you’re taking in the grandiosity of the Duomo, don’t forget to look up to the dome. The small red light bulb above the apse is not a random detail. The nail where Jesus Christ was crucified is stored there. Other highlights in the Duomo are the 16th-century tomb of Gian Giacomo Medici and the jewelled gold reliquary of San Carlo Borromeo. An initiative that, greeting the arrival of spring 2023, wants to be a tribute to the Madonnina, which also represents an important civic sign, especially in the days of the 175th anniversary of the "Cinque Giornate" (Five Days of Milan), when for the first time, in 1848, the italian flag was hoisted as a sign of freedom right on the highest spire of the Duomo. And if you’re ready for some shopping, the area around the Duomo is the perfect place for it. We’ve rounded up some of the best stores, even if it’s just simple window shopping. For Inter, it was a year of celebration that ultimately ended in disappointment. While their league form was far from perfect, finishing third and 18 points off Napoli at the summit, they embraced the cup competitions. Their first trophy lift came after a 3-0 victory over Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana in January, which was followed with a Coppa Italia triumph at the end of the season. Inter also reached the Champions League final but suffered a heartbreakingly narrow loss to Manchester City. If you’re arriving in Milano Centrale, you can hop on the metro to the Duomo, which runs every 5 minutes. Alternatively, you can take tram line 1 to the north of the station, going all the way to Piazza del Duomo. From Milano Garibaldi, take the M2 to the Cadorna stop. From there, you can either choose to walk or take the M1 to the Duomo.

Members of the Sisters of Life receive a medal of the Madonna of the Streets at their first profession. [8] His next step, which was to phone the police and ask them to investigate the Gregori family, therefore, seems logical, as does his request to his own doctor to carry out tests on the "blood" now congealed on the statue. What he wasn't prepared for was the result: the substance was haemoglobin. In the case of Civitavecchia, he claims to have received several tip-offs: "In December 1994, a man, who introduced himself as an expert in 'esotericism', called me and warned me about a 'weeping' that was being planned in Civitavecchia. Don't you think that's a very strange coincidence?" After the incident, he received an anonymous fax from someone claiming repentance for being behind events at Pantano, and admitted that it had begun as a carnival prank, but that "fanatical colleagues" had taken it further.
