About this deal

The calling cards left at the scene in and around the body of the victims suggest something and someone with purpose, and someone possessing the kind of hate and evil few people are capable of. However, with no connection to the victims or the lyrics, Hunter after 10 days is no further forward in solving the crime. Is this for real, captain?’ Wilson asked, pointing at Hunter. ‘Baby-faced, pretty-boy, bible-salesman-looking kid-in-a-cheap-suit here is joining the division?’ A serial killer is at work. Not just any serial killer, but one that puts the power and choices in the hands of the public. Broadcasting live on the internet, this serial killer asks the general public to vote on which more horrific manner of death they want a total stranger to undergo. And vote they do. Human beings voting to see a horrific death. Hunter's partner Garcia has got some good moments during the story and even made me smile with some remarks he made. Captain Blake made a few appearances but wasn't much involved in the case and the same can be said for Dr. Hove.

Wilson was standing inside Captain William Bolter’s office, staring at the piece of paper the captain had just handed him. Hunter & Garcia cannot work out what the killer is telling them the deeper they go they find another woman dead, the motive is the same stitched up & this time the medical examiner found a knife in the women's body, Hunter & Garcia felt a pattern emerging & this time the killer left a message He's INSIDE YOU!!! what this means they don't know.

After reading until the 8th installment I know by now how many victims there are gonna be, how Hunter will solve the case and that he will go and face the killer on his own. I would like a surprise like a victim gets away and spoils the killer's plans, Hunter's partner is the one that solves the case or is the one facing the killer in the end or anything that will be different.

As always, there are several red herrings given, to throw readers off from the real killer and the real reason of the murders. However, I find it very interesting, that the victims were not as 'innocent' as they seemed to be. The victims were all 'noble' and 'good' people in the public's eyes. One was a former DA, one was a former LAPD Detective, and the other one was a psychologist. The reason on why they were killed lies in their past ... and I couldn't help to think that they deserved their current fate. So, story wise, this is really, really good. I have formed a strong attachment of Robert Hunter and his partner in Homicide Special Section Carlos Garcia. Combined with how it makes me ponder about the era of Internet and social media, it easily makes this latest installment another favorite.

And the motivation between the murders sadden me as well. Because again, it taps the question about society and how they're easily giving out vicious comments on Internet on things that they don't completely know or understand. Simply because it's entertaining. The Internet trolls. The people who are willing to videotape a crime and upload it, comment on it, like/dislike it on Internet. Maybe one should consider not showing each little mental fart with geotagged pictures and far too detailed personal idiot drivel to everyone in the world. Except one is into getting tortured and killed. This was an absolutely dark, gritty, gory and twisted (when it comes to the MO of the killer, the motivation isn't really twisted - like I said sometimes the killer is relatable) book. Definitely not for the faint-hearted. 🖥
