About this deal

Finally we get Spec Ops which is the Narrative Play module for Kill Team and where I feel the game is at it’s strongest. Bursting with all the goodies you could possibly need to kick-start your Kill Team career, not only is this a must-have for Kill Team fanatics and avid collectors, but also for new starters top the hobby.

This is a familiar experience for old hands at Warhammer 40k or Age of Sigmar – larger, slower games, where armies’ various units often have multiple rules or interactions to double check on most turns. This means that if you are suffering from heavy casualties and are heavily outnumbered it could be that your entire force manages to dig in and fire some desperate overwatch as a valiant last stand, which is an interesting balancing mechanic. GW probably has entire warehouses full of the things, so you can hardly blame them for wanting to get rid of a few at every possible opportunity.Other times, I was blessing the movement gauge for allowing me to comfortably measure zig-zagging moves around closely placed terrain, where no tape measure could easily go. That goes double if those dudes include Elites and HQ character models – both of which were introduced into the previous edition via expansion sets, and neither of which are included in the new game at launch.

No chucking a Bladeguard Veteran or a standard Bolt Rifle-weilding Intercessor into your team to help individualise your force. GW’s decision not to include a sheaf of handy datacards for each of the Kommando and Krieg operators (as it did with Dominion, and, significantly, Warcry’s original starter set) feels like a disappointing missed opportunity to bring people into Octarius’ gameplay quicker and easier. The current releases roadmap suggests we can expect, at a minimum, two new Kill Teams every three months until next June, with all the rules and accoutrements they bring – so keep an eye out, and you might strike lucky with dedicated rules and models for your favourite army soon enough.

The long ruler is 6 inches long with the smaller markers having 1″, 2″ and 3″ facings in the same way as a combat gauge. This is a really cool system that represents the back and forth in a close combat fight that would be too cumbersome to represent in a large scale game, but works brilliantly here!Thankfully however, one box gives you everything you would need for a 2 player game, meaning your opponent will not be lacking for cards and tokens as long as you have a set! The plastic Krieg kit is a lot more varied than the resin ones from Forge World and give you access to a lot more weapon options than those currently available – just check out that Krieg sniper! There are a few repeats: the four larger Ork structures are only two different models – you just get a pair of them. This book had just about everything you needed to play Kill Team in it – bar the info for two or three factions, which I have been reliably informed were released later.
